Field sales

Self-service ordering does not replace your field sales team. It frees it.

The first question in every shop project is about the reps. The honest answer: routine orders move online, the relationship stays with the rep, and the rep gets better reasons to visit.

When a wholesaler talks about a dealer shop, the field sales team listens carefully. If dealers order themselves, what is left for the rep? It is a fair question, and it deserves a precise answer rather than a reassurance.

Dealers stay assigned to their rep

Every dealer keeps the rep he has today. An order placed in the shop counts for that rep exactly as an order taken by phone. Nothing about the commission or the territory changes because the channel changes. This one rule decides whether reps promote the shop or quietly work against it.

What moves online, and what does not

Routine moves online: the reorder of a size the dealer buys every week, the check of a delivery date, the copy of an invoice. What stays with the rep is the part that needs a person: advice on a range, a conversation about payment, a new dealer, a dealer who is about to leave.

A day with data instead of memory

  1. A ranked list in the morning

The day starts with who to visit first and why, for example because order volume fell or an invoice is overdue.

  2. One screen at the dealer

Account balance, credit limit, agreed volume against actual and open claims, without searching several systems.

  3. Order on behalf of the dealer

In the same shop, with the dealer’s prices, terms and promotions. The order counts for the rep as before.

Better reasons to visit

The shop records what a phone call never did: what a dealer searched for and did not find, which cart he left, which brand he looked at. For a rep that is a concrete reason for the next visit. It is not a cold call. It is a conversation about something the dealer already wanted.

Knowledge that stays when a rep leaves

Today much of what a wholesaler knows about a dealer lives in the head of one rep. When that rep changes jobs, the knowledge goes too. When visits, agreements and open topics are recorded where the team works, the next rep starts with the full picture.

How to bring the team along

  • Tell the reps the commission rule before you tell the dealers about the shop
  • Let each rep order once on behalf of a dealer before the launch
  • Choose the friendly dealers together with the reps who know them
